Home of the World’s Best Nordmann Firs
The Georgian region, where every year seeds are harvested to produce the world’s best Nordmann firs, is usually referred to as Ambrolauri. The official name of the entire region, however, is Racha-Lechkhumi.
With an area of 4,954 km² in total, it accounts for about 7% of the area of the entire country of Georgia. The population of this beautiful but remote and hilly region consists of just under 15,300 people and thus accounts for merely 0.3% of the 4.64 million population of Georgia.
The number of villages and residences in total is said to be 256. The town of Ambrolauri is the largest urban area and the official administrative centre.
